I put my face against the glass window the day before she died.
I see the sun creeping behind the clouds leaving on her night lights,
I see the busy animals down below racing their rounds leaving fumes behind,
I see the eyes and smiles I don’t know and wonder in their sight.
I feel like a hole.

 The glass, she’s cold,
My fingers run across her mind.
I feel her scars and wonder how old,
Could she be just by her outside.
I see my reflection when I looked in her face,
Her eyes matched mine.
I take one last stare into grace,
And left without goodbye.

I came back when the sun was wide awake,
I guess the clouds were sick.
At the top of the stairs my body shakes,
Windows body was no longer thick.
My reflection is now in the spiders eyes,
And her scars show bold lines.
I see now the big disguise,
As the tears in my eyes cry.
I stayed by her side until they covered her with a trash bag,
And left without goodbye.
I go back to hear the voices nag,
And it’s me who wants to die.

 When I look in the mirror,
I notice something different.
The lines of my face so bold with horror,
With all this time I’ve spent.

 When I go back to my familiar place,
She is no longer there.
I go to the new girl and look at her face,
But all I saw was a clear stare.
My face was no longer down.
I realized what was the matter.
I needed help; my life’s a frown,
I was the window the dugs had shatter.

 I guess she took her last hit,
And now it’s my turn.
Don’t wait last minute for your life to split,
Stop before she decides to burn.
I took my last hit when I opened the door to the light,
I wasn’t expecting God, just hoping for a call.
The people were so nice and allowed me to fight,
And stayed by my side through it all.

 Now I know the smiles and recognize the voices,
Of the many who cared for my matter.
Now I help those whose only choice is,
To be like the window and wait to shatter.
I feel whole.

Hoops Clinics in Hawaii Bring Collegiate Basketball to Kids

Chaminade University, the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational and the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii present free hoops clinics for local kids Sept. 26 & Oct. 3

The clinics are free to all participants between the ages of seven and 17. All participants are asked to bring two canned goods, which will go to the Hawaii Foodbank. Additionally, the clinics will be supported by the Hawaii Medical Services Assocation (HMSA). The Chaminade University men’s basketball program, including Head Coach Matt Mahar, will work with kids on skills, drills, dribbling, passing and shooting on the basketball court. All participants will receive an adidas basketball and the opportunity to win tickets to the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational taking place in Maui, Thankgiving week this November at the Lahaina Civic Center.

 “With a strong history in Hawaii, the Tournament is dedicated to giving back to the local community,” said Tom Valdiserri, senior vice president of KemperSports, operator of the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational. “We are thrilled to bring a taste of college athletics to young, deserving kids in Hawaii as we gear up for the Tournament in November.” 

 The first free clinic will take place on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Boys & Girls Club Hale Pono Clubhouse at 91-884 Fort Weaver Rd. in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Check-in will be from 1 – 1:30 p.m. and the clinic will take place from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Participants should sign-up in advance by contacting Peter Jackson at 808.689.4182, ext. 224.

 The second free clinic will occur on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Boys & Girls Club Spalding Clubhouse at 1704 Wailoa Street in Honolulu. Check-in will be from 10 – 10:30 a.m. and the clinic will take place from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Participants should sign-up in advance by contacting Dickson Wong at 808.256.7890.

 “These hoops clinics represent a huge opportunity for our kids,” said David Nakada, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii. “Meeting Coach Mahar and playing hoops with older, experienced student athletes will be a real treat and an inspiration that we’re sure will make a huge impression on our participants.”

 The 2009 Hoops Clinic series builds on the success of a Tournament-hosted basketball clinic that has been held annually the Saturday before the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational since 2003.

 “We are proud of our men’s basketball team and Coach Mahar and we are very pleased to be a part of this series of clinics that will share the knowledge and passion of the team with our community,” said Brother Bernard Ploeger, president of Chaminade University.

 The 2009 EA SPORTS Maui Invitational tips off Nov. 23-25 at Maui’s Lahaina Civic Center. Competing for early-season glory are Gonzaga, Maryland, Arizona, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Colorado and host Chaminade University. The Tournament is celebrating its 26^th year in paradise as the nation’s premier early-season college basketball tournament. Our organization is participating in Give Aloha, Foodland’s Annual Community Matching This program honors Foodland’s Gifts Program. founder, Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan, and continues his legacy of giving back to the community. 

From September 1st – 30th, customers are invited to make donations of up to a cumulative total of $249 per person, per organization to participating Hawaii non-profit organizations at checkout. Donations made without a Maika‘i Card will not be matched. Individuals must use their own Maika‘i Card to make a donation. Foodland and the Western Union Foundation will match a portion of each donation

Our five digit registration code is 7 7 3 2 2. Your donation will be added to your grocery purchase total. You may give up to $249 per organization (donations exceeding $249 will not be matched). Donor names will not be released to our organization, so if you would like us to know of your gift, please contact us directly so that we may properly acknowledge your gift.

I am from red, polished, tasty hot dogs.

I am from a dark closet where I can play with my imagination.
I am from a back yard filled with plants, grown from my father’s bare hands.
I am from a kitchen with Filipino food made from my courageous mother.

I am from flowers that are soft-to-the-touch and sweet-smelling.
I am from pineapple-scented perfume sprayed by my girly sister.
I am from picking up, smelly droppings from my golden retriever.

I am from friends who sometimes shout “SHUT UP!” whenever I crack a joke.
I am from a mother who tells me “put your dirty laundry in the washer!” every time I forget.
I am from a sister who sometimes yells “I HATE YOU!” because of her spoildness.

I am from a soft, comfortable bed with fluffy pillows.
I am from a black remote, fulled with buttons, every time I go home.
I am from a stuffy, reserved-for-Linda, big, white, flowery chair.

I am from a strong, built up woman who blesses everyone she helps and understands Fono Mulivai.
I am from a person who inspired me to believe that I am “greatness”, and that I am determined of my future Kelia Gilman.
I am from a guy who believes that this world will get better, believes that one day we will reunite with our lost love ones and a guy who provides us with shelter, water, food, and clothes “GOD” himself.
