Flip-Flops for Friends

Donate a pair of slippahs to Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii and recieve an OLD NAVY 10% bounce back coupon to redeem June 28th through July 4th. Donation must be dropped off at OLD NAVY stores to recieve coupon. Get the summer styles kids need for $10 and under. OLD NAVY will donate 5% of all OLD NAVY CAMP products (graphic tees, tanks, shorts, hoodies anorack) sold between June 5th through July 2nd to Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii.

Sorobon Celebration

The Sorobon  celebration symbolized the last session for the year. “ Just by going to one class, I instantly understood how to use the Sorobon.” said 15 year old member Dixie Castillo. Classes will be back, but the date is to be determined. If you have any questions or concerns on Sorobon classes please see Aunty Jane in the Learning Center

Neighbor Gives $20,000

Ewa Beach welcomes their new neighbor, Hoakalei Country Club, located next to Ocean Pointe. Thanks Ernie Els (Hoakalei Golf Course) Charities for selecting Hale Pono Ewa Beach Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii to be a recipient of the 1st annual Hoakalei Golf Tournament. The $20,000 contribution will go a long way to support programs and services in our community.

Donations were made to BGCH – Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii – Hale Pono Ewa Beach Club, Autism Speaks, Beautiful Son Foundation and James Campbell High School Athletics Department.

Brian Frejo: Brian (Pawnee/Seminole) is a highly talented and multi-faceted individual who is best known for his work as a “Cultural Activist,” youth advocate, DJ, and performer. Brian is one of the most sought after DJ’s, music producers and promoters in Indian Country. As “DJ Shock B” he has performed with some of the most popular acts in music today. Brian also has his finger on the hottest and most up and coming Native music talent that has enabled him to produce a range of successful concerts, tours and special events that has gained him the reputation as one of the premier music promoters and special event organizers in Indian Country. Brian is also honored to be a part of the 2002 Grammy–nominated drum group “Young Bird.”

The Power of Vision: “The Power of Vision” is a dynamic and interactive workshop conducted by Brian in which he works with youth to dare to dream, visualize and realize their power to achieve their personal potential. Themes that Brian engages youth on include the importance of developing one’s own personal vision of wellness and success; passion; discipline; and the risks and rewards of making healthy versus unhealthy decisions. Brian works with youth to develop strategies for goal setting; making healthy choices; being drug and alcohol-free; taking personal responsibility; realizing one’s own personal vision for success; and for physical, emotional, cultural, and spiritual well being. This is one of Brian’s most successful and popular workshops that he has conducted at more than 500 reservations, schools and conferences.

“Where I’m From”

I’m from a strong-willed mother, who met my over-caring father, and gave birth to tall brother, spoiled sister, and…me!

I’m from the middle child, where the only language that my parents speak is “Dixie”

I’m from two dogs, two guinea pigs, one rabbit, three chickens, and one cockatiel

I’m from the tallest pine tree in the neighborhood

 

I’m from delicious pancit, scrumptious pinakbet, convenient lumpias, and the usual white rice

I’m from red meat manapuas, pork hash, spam musubis, fried noodles and not too crispy chickens, afterschool

I’m from stringy and spicy kim-chee noodles, round fish-sushi, traditional bentos, and varieties of sweet, meaty, or a little of both, dim-sums

I’m from cheesy quesadillas, juicy snack wraps, salty french-fries, and the tomato sauce pizzas on days where we’re just too lazy to cook

 

I’m from a colorful salad bowl, a sweet and sour salsa; a mixed plate.

I’m from “Hello”, “Aloha”, “Konnichi wa”, “Hola”, “Annyeonghaseyo”, “Bonjour”, “Nihao”, “Talofa”, “Halo”, “Mabuhay”, “Hafa” and “Ma nishma”

I’m from smiles towards blacks, whites, tans, browns, yellows…orange?

I’m from different colors in one big beautiful rainbow; I embrace it

 

I’m from “If you are a virgin, don’t sing while cooking or you will marry an old man.”

I’m from “Hoy”, “Psst, come over here”, and “Nay!”

I’m from loud talking Mina-birds who love karaoke

I’m from parties that end, mostly, at midnight

 

I’m from air-conditioned rooms, everyday

I’m from little kids, friendly peers, and entertaining adults; I give hugs to all of them

I’m from opportunities and leadership training

I’m from, “Do you have your club card?”

 

I’m from iconic crucifixes, purified rosaries, and blessed prayers

I’m from monotheism; Jesus

I’m from “Peace be with you”, but instead of hand-shakes we have hugs

I’m from getting more in touch with my faith

 

I’m from creative dancing, urban graffiti, and expressive drawing

I’m from R&B, K-Pop, Alternatives, any music that I’m in the mood for

I’m from inspirations to be something big in the future

I’m from a persistent dreamer

 

I’m from the capital of Hawaii

I’m from islands of tropical fruit, warm sun, and splashes of surfing

I’m from hula dancers with different shades of hue, fragranced leis coming to greet you

4th Annual Honu Race & Dive “N” Movie

 Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii Leeward Clubhouses presented The 4th annual Honu Race, Family Concert & Dive “N” Movie was on Friday, March 20, 2009 from 4:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at The Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park It is A benefit for the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii Leeward Club Houses, the family event offers an opportunity to adopt and race a rubber Honu (turtle) to win fabulous prizes and then stay for the evening to enjoy Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park’s popular Dive “N” Movie event for the whole Family!  The event features entertainment, games, giveaways and a fun movie to watch in the wave pool.
